Color of the Week.... Iron

Valori Wells-Kennedy - Thursday, May 01, 2014
Oh my gosh... First I have to apologize about the mix up on last weeks color of the week. I am still learning this new blog format and somehow it didn't post... total user error!!! Thanks!!!

What can I say as a black and white photographer I love this color... and there is something about gray that is calming and peaceful. Iron is a cool blueish gray that reminds me of the keys in an old typewriter.

Last week I accidently did a bad link to my new blog....
Here is a good link!

(Kona Solid White)

I love, love, love white, warm white, almost white, gray white, cream white....ALL white. One of my favorite quilts I have ever made is Trinity which uses my Wish collection and a variety of whites in the background....cottons and linens which gives a subtle color and textural change to using just a solid white.

Enjoy all the subtle beauty of white!

Have a great day!

The lucky 3 winners will be emailed.... not to worry I have lots more to give away over the year!!! Keep your eyes out....

Color of the Week starts next Thursday. I have been filling my days with color. While flipping through iPhoto today I noticed that I kept stopping at black and white images.

Black and white photography was my first love.... The first art form that really captured me. I will always find some of the best inspiration within black and white photography.

I figured that before we journey on a year of color we should enjoy the beauty of the black and white photograph.

A few of my black and white images. The last couple dating back to my college days. I have books upon books of negatives as well as printed images. Now I just have thousands upon thousands upon thousands of digital images on my computer. Times have changed for me and my photography but one thing will remain the same how much I love the emotion that is evoked with a black and white photograph.

Have a great day!

Blueprint Basics

Valori Wells-Kennedy - Monday, March 31, 2014

I love color….

When I set out to create Blueprint Basics I made a color wheel of sorts. This was the beginning of separating the colors into seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The designs came next. The designs in Blueprint Basics started with my sketchbook, simple drawings of inspiration. I planned the designs to mix throughout the seasons.

My swatches and strike-offs covered a section of my inspirational wall for a year. The beginning of Blueprint was also the beginning of The Color of the Week idea…. One night when I couldn’t sleep, I was so excited to create a line of basics, I started thinking about how much I photograph color. Why not connect the two and create an inspirational blog once a week for an entire year. A year of color….mixed with inspirational photography, quilts and projects.

I am so very lucky to be working with Robert Kaufman and when I presented my idea they were excited and wanted to see what I could do with the project. Thanks to them my little idea is now a reality.

Let me introduce you to Spring Blueprint Basics…..

Royal Blue

Pink Nectar

Mixed with these designs are four Kona Solids. I love to work with solids. Combining Blueprint Basics and Kona Solids was a given for this project.
